Guest Post – Laid Brand Professional Hair Care

7 May

Lately, hair products have been going through major changes. As you’ll notice some brands are depleting bad-for-you ingredients while others are infusing innovative ingredients. Check out below for a guest review on Laid hair care products:

“I am a product junkie, so imagine my excitement when I was offered to sample Laid Brand’s Luscious Locks products! It’s a brand I haven’t tried before and it has a sexy twist – human pheromones! Now, I was a little apprehensive to try something that comes from…well…a human, but after learning that the products are sulfate and paraben-free I thought I would give it a try.

Let me just say – I love it! Luscious Locks is targeted specifically to dry/damaged hair and while my hair isn’t dry, I do find my ends get fried after straightening it everyday. The shampoo and conditioner hydrate without leaving my hair feeling weighed down. I attribute this to the brand’s use of glycerin and fruit oils instead of gross, heavy silicones. The conditioner also contains menthol, which makes you feel all tingly when you use it!

Now about those pheromones…Laid Brand specializes in the trademarked use of “Pherottraction” technology. All the products feature a custom blend of pheromones for both men and women. While I did not attract anyone in particular, I did get compliments on how smooth and shiny my hair was. That means a product works in my book! According to Laid Brand’s website , as well as being sulfate and paraben- free, the packaging is recycled and none of the products were tested on animals. Yay!

Guest Post – Kat Von D Eyeliner Pencil

7 Apr

Today’s post comes from the lady that conceived me: my MOMMA! Although I grew up trying on her heels and dresses, she now comes to me for beauty advice. It is common for her to take my sister’s makeup to claim as her own and yesterday she could not stop talking about some eyeliner she had “found” wondering where she could buy it later. After further investigation, I learned that she was referring to a Kat Von D eyeliner that came in the “Mi Vida Loca” palette I had given to my sister, yet somehow, it had “found” it’s way into my mother’s makeup collection.

Here, my mother, Isabel Munoz, tells you why she really likes the Kat Von D eyeliner:

“I like the eyeliner because I’ve been having problems with my skin. Every time I use liquid eyeliner, I get a rash and I found this eyeliner that is really nice and really dark. I tried other eyeliners but I always have to burn them so they could get dark, but this one is really good and it lasts long and I get a thin nice application look. I’m just happy that I found this one because I’ve been trying a lot of different ones from the stores, but I found this one in my drawer right there, somebody left it there so I’m happy with it and I just want to know where they sell it.”

As you can see, my mom is old-school (burning eyeliner tips?) and magically, she always “finds” makeup. She had been talking about this one for a while and I am glad I was able to figure out that it was the Kat Von D eyeliner because:

1) I ALSO have an eyeliner obsession (runs in the fam bam?)

2) my mother HAS been getting allergic reactions to many eye makeup products lately

Kat Von D has a variety of makeup palettes for a colorful or smokey eye look; each palette comes with a mini eyeliner. She also has the Autograph Pencil which is a creamy, waterproof eyeliner pencil made with no parabens.

Isabel Munoz is great at math problems and gets irritated when she has to write any essays. She is the best cook in the world and a salsa dancer master. She has taught her share of salsa dancing classes and when she is not practicing new steps, she enjoys eating Chinese food with her mother and taking spontaneous trips to the casino.

Guest Post – Cute Black Purse from The Loved One (Pasadena, Ca.)

31 Mar

Well folks, I can’t get to every cool thing out there! So after hearing my pal, Adriana, rave about this cute, black purse, I suggested she random review it! Check it out:

Lately I’ve been incredibly disappointed with the clothing and accessories that are available at major stores. The 90s are back, and while they may be cool to younger kids who were born then and don’t remember a thing, I’d like to forget about wide-legged pants, layered tube socks, and bandeau bra tops (think J-Lo when she was still Jennifer Lopez back in her In Living Color, Fly Girl days. I always do!).

My avoidance of all things 90s has led me to smaller vintage stores and boutiques, and today I found the best purse ever! Like most women, I carry half of the contents of my apartment in my purse, so I try not to buy anything too large because it will end up weighing 20lbs. Because of this I try to go for purses that are medium-sized with lots of compartments to help me organize everything, like this little gem:

At first it doesn’t look like anything special – it even looks a bit small. BUT! The beauty of it is in the expanding accordion-like center that divides the purse neatly into three different compartments. It has handy pockets on either side of the center compartments, as well as two zippered pockets hidden inside.  I love the gold clasps and think they add a bit of flair to the overall sleek style of the purse.

I knew I loved the purse when I bought it, but I have to say that I was very impressed when I realized how much stuff I could actually shove into it!

Yes those are dried mangos w/ chile…a girl has to snack!

Ignore the eyeshadow swatch on my hand! I swear it’s not dirt!

Amazing, right? It’s like magic! Unfortunately, if you like this purse there isn’t another like it (well, at least not at the store where I bought it) – which is one of the downsides of shopping at smaller vintage stores. Although, there were several other super cute purses there to choose from. If you’re ever in the Pasadena, CA area, check out The Loved One, at 2 E. Holly Street.
